Room 28 Educational Project

Cooperations with Schools and Educational Institutions

Update, July 2023. Hannelore Brenner

Cooperations with schools are the bridges we build to anchor our project with schools and carry it into the future. This goes from project-related cooperations to long-term school partnerships. A school can become a member of our association and become a kind of  branch of Room 28. The idea is that they get a version of the exhibition and can offer it along with the Educational Project to schools in their region. For many years, we only lent the exhibition. In 2017 we started our first collaboration with a newly founded Czech Waldorf school near Terezin. This happened thanks to its head Katarina Hurychová and her team. We developed closed bonds with this school.

German-Czech Cooperation Project

With the opening of the exhibition The Girls of Room 28 (Czech version) on November 27, 2017 in Terezin, we officially established a cooperation with the Czech Waldorf School Svobodná základní škola, o.p.s. Within the framework of this cooperation, the Czech Compendium on the Room 28 Educational Project was created.

The Compendium conveys how the cooperation came about. Originally there was an excellent idea to found a Waldorf School in the town of Terezin, where our exhibition The Girls of Room 28 was to be integrated. Due to lack of funding, this could not be realized. But our partnership has remained with us. I thank the initiator of the school Katarina Hurychová for her great commitment! I also thank her successor Kristýna Brabcová.  Photo: November 27, 2017, Terezin in the Akademicka.

Otfried-von-Weißenburg-Gymnasium in Dahn

Start: May 2022

From April to May 2022, the Otfried-von-Weißenburg-Gymnasium presented the exhibition The Girls of Room 28 as part of performances of the children’s opera Brundibár. I was invited for performances of the opera and the opening of the exhibition and got to know an extraordinarily committed team of music-loving teachers, especially Holger Ryseck and the director of the school, Peter Gutmann. The idea emerged to establish a partnership between the Otfried-von-Weißenburg-Gymnasium and Room 28. Now the school is preparing an event in October 2023 in Berlin to mark the beginning of our cooperation. I am looking forward to it.

The Room 28 Educational Project is supported by the NPO Room 28. It is a group of friends who support the project with the "Girls of Room 28" in various ways and share the values, tasks and goals laid down in the statutes of our organization. its main mission is to convey the "legacy of the Girls of Room 28" to younger generations and lead it into the future.
